Fernandinho paid his own money to sign for Man City

Fernandinho was so desperate to leave Shakhtar Donetsk that he gave up £4million of his own money to complete the move.  It must be so nice there

Man City completed the signing of the Brazilian midfielder for £30million yesterday but it almost didn't happen because Shakhtar wanted £34m.  Luckily for City, Fernandinho reeeeeally wanted to leave the Ukraine and started tweeting articles about how he and City made a good team or something else weird like that.  He told the Manchester Evening News said this:
“I got a reply from my previous club, Shakhtar Donetsk, and they didn’t want to sell me at any price,” he said. “I told them I had a dream to play in a higher league than the Ukrainian league.
It's ambition like this that I really want to see in my players.  Man City will be delighted to have someone who actually wants to try rather than just pick up loads of money for turning up.  I'm pretty sure Roque Santa Cruz is still on their books, Mark Hughes truly is a financial genius of his time.  You could put him in charge of a tuck shop at school and bailiffs would be round within a week.  Also he'd hire Shaun Wright-Philips
