Messi is better than Pele say statistics

Lionel Messi has now scored 76 goals in 2012, which is one more than Pele managed in his greatest calendar year of football.  And football wasn't even on Sky back then so those hardly even counted.  Ha, good one Pele

The tiny Argentine now has until the end of December to score over 85 goals, which would break Gerd Muller's record.  So how come Muller isn't the best player ever?  I'm confused.  Pele scores some goals, wins a couple of trophies and then helps people get boners, yet Gerd Muller is forgotten in folklore as 'some guy that Messi can beat'.  He scored 68 goals in 62 games for West Germany, which is quite good because they are in Europe, and now he has to fight crime for a living?  There's something not right about this.  Hopefully Gerd Muller can solve this mystery
