Greece 1 - 1 Poland

Greece played Poland in the opening game of Euro 2012 today and there was lots of excitement after the initial weird opening ceremony like the bit where the referee decided to help Poland try and win.

The Spanish referee vented his frustrations at Greece losing him money in his shares by booking Sokratis Papastathopoulos for having the audacity to header a football and then giving a second booking for trying to stop a falling Polish player pulling him to the ground.  Understandably outraged by the Greek defender's attempts to play football he changed the shape of the rest of the game, deciding that lying on top of a ball with your hand in the penalty area is just something people do from time to time and letting Poland away with said offence.

Lewandowski opened the scoring with a header and the rest of the first half was pretty terrible until a bunch of nonsense refereeing made everything weird.  Act 2 saw the introduction of Salpingidis who scored an equaliser with his first touch, following some of the most awful goalkeeping Szczesny Hawkes has ever done.  Salpingidis found himself one on one with the Arsenal keeper about 20 minutes later and with a choice to be made between conceding a goal, trying to be a goalie or fouling the player, Szczesny elected to bring the Greek forward down and get sent off.

His replacement had better luck and saved Karagounis' penalty, which was shit.

Blah blah blah 1-1.
