Breaking News: There is lots of money in football

The money in football these days is outrageous. It's been announced that in 2011 £1.9bn was paid for international transfers. To give you an idea of how much that is, that is £1.9bn more than is in my pocket right now.

In case you are wondering, that is a big pile of money burning. I should have just put up a picture of Fernando Torres, he was a far bigger waste of money. FIFA have a new "transfer matching system" that has been brought in to help police the dodgy financial goings on in the transfer market.

It's well known that in many places, mainly South America that money often goes to intermediaries to make sure a transfer happens. Of all the money spent, $130m went to agents. $ have been used here to make it sound like more money, very clever. The highest paying footballing country in the world is probably Spain or England. FIFA decided not to disclose what country it is but the average salary in the highest paying country is $675,000. If only I was a footballer and not a bum, then I would be rolling in it. Oh well, another beer aye?
