Guus Hiddink is rich

The papers brought us whispers of Guus Hiddink spending some time at Chelsea to babysit Andre Villas-Boas today, and there was even talk of him coaching England recently.  Instead, he decided he'd rather earn $100m and join Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala.

Hiddink is 65 now and definitely has one eye on retirement. Perhaps two eyes. He has signed a contract with the Russian bazillionaire club until the end of the 2012/13 season with his official title being Chief Coach and Vice-President of Development.  But you can call him Master.

Despite their giant money pit, Anzhi are actually 7th in the league. This is probably because they are based in Moscow and travel 1,250 miles for their home games. I live in the North-East of Scotland so it would be like me travelling to Zurich in Switzerland to watch Aberdeen play at "home". I can't even be arsed driving the 20 miles from my house.

Guus is excited at the prospect of developing a new footballing power. They are going to build a new stadium, training facilities and a zoo. He decided to sign an 18-month contract because it will only take 18 months to achieve this obviously and had nothing to do with the millions of pounds and handful of oil fields he will receive.
