Liverpool's defence was: "in Uruguay calling someone a negro isn't necessarily racist". In fact one of Suarez's team-mates in the national team is called "El Mono" (the monkey). They are ignorant, not racist. But maybe racist. He isn't actually black so I'm not sure what point Tim Vickery was trying to make in his BBC column.
Evra was pretty pissed off after the 8th time of being called a negro. Only his brothers are allowed to call him that! I don't mean his actual brothers. Suarez and his Liverpool buddies have 14 days to decide if they want to appeal but I'm not sure how you would appeal such a decision.... "I did call him a negro but I listen to loads of hip hop so I thought I was allowed to."
The FA have clearly made an example of Suarez and it will be interesting to see what is going to happen with John Terry. "Black cunt" is definitely worse than "negro" in my middle class white male mind so can we expect a 16 game ban? At least Suarez will be looking forward to a nice long Christmas holiday. I wonder if giant rodents eat turkey?
